Supporting Boycotts: No Business Of Government

The beauty of the American immigration policy is that it is non-discriminatory. Unlike many nations, the United States does not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, or economic status. Therefore, when the state Senate recently voted to support SCR 113 and urged workers and students to not show up to work or school on May 1st, I was appalled a legislative body would suggest residents of California defy the law.

Advocating workers to walk off the job in order to support amnesty and the legalization of all illegal immigrants is a slap in the face for the millions of immigrants who have come to the United States legally. For centuries immigrants have flocked to the United States from all corners of the globe. Today, millions of individuals born outside of our boundaries apply for citizenship every year and patiently wait for their chance to become citizens. SCR 113 sends the message to those who have followed our nation’s laws that it is better to cut in line than it is to wait your turn.
